Introduction
URMIA launched this program in 2007 to recognize innovative risk management solutions implemented by our members. Please see information about our 2007 Innovative Risk Management Solutions recipient here.
Purpose
- To identify and recognize new and creative risk management efforts implemented by our members which address specific exposures or risk management topics in their college or university.
- To encourage members to share their successful ideas or projects as a potential resource for others and to facilitate sharing of this information.
- To promote and recognize innovative thinking and problem solving that benefits higher education risk management.
Evaluation Criteria
The criteria to be used to evaluate a program should include:
Section I: What risks or exposures were addressed by your solution? Why was this risk or exposure a priority? What makes your solution a unique or innovative approach? What programs or services on your campus were affected or improved by this project? What are the positive results of the implemented program? How were the changes received by those affected by the program or service?
(Evaluation Scale: 0 to 20 points)
Section II: What was the total budget for this project? How many staff were allocated to this project and for what length of time? If you projected an expected return on investment how was that done? How are you tracking your success on risk reduction as a result of implementation? What strategies or venues did you use for communication to the college or university community?
(Evaluation Scale: 0 to 50 points)
Section III: How could other risk managers utilize your solution on their home campus? Is your solution scalable for smaller/larger campuses? If your solution requires a large staff for implementation, what are key elements that could be utilized by smaller risk management office?
(Evaluation Scale: 0 to 20 points)
Section IV: Organization and presentation of materials for evaluation and review – this presentation will include a telephone interview with the URMIA Honors Committee members.
(Evaluation Scale: 0 to 10 points)
Review and Presentation Process
The URMIA Honors Committee will review program entries and make selections for recognition. All program entries will be displayed at the annual conference, and those selected for awards may be asked to present the details of their program as part of the conference program and/or as an article for URMIA Insights of the URMIA Journal.
Awards
All program entries that meet the submittal criteria will be acknowledged by URMIA and receive a letter from the Honors Committee thanking them for participating in the program and recognizing the value of their efforts. Programs selected for award recognition will receive a plaque during the URMIA awards program at the conference and be highlighted in URMIA Insights. In addition, a letter and photo from the URMIA President will be sent to the President or Chancellor of the member institution receiving the award and to the risk manager’s immediate supervisor. The number of awards issued each year will be at the discretion of the Honors Committee. The Honors Committee will seek annual nominations for recognition at the annual meeting but will only grant an award in years when a truly innovative solution is nominated for recognition.
