URMIA member Barbara Schatzer presented "Minors on Campus: How to Know Who is Doing What" at CSHEMA's 61st Annual Conference in Palm Springs last month and will present her session again at ACUA's 2014 Annual Conference September 14-18, 2014 in Los Angeles, California.

Presentation Description: This session will demonstrate the internal system developed by the University of San Diego to register all university-sponsored programs for minors. The system is designed to ensure appropriate staffing, track training and background checks, and link to relevant policies and regulations. There will be ample time allotted during this session for open discussion and questions. After attending this session, participants will be able to describe the process for determining appropriate staffing levels for programs for minors based on the age of attendees and day versus overnight programs, describe how the University of San Diego tracks training and background checks for staff and volunteers, and incorporate tracking and registration to relevant policies and internal training programs through a web-based program.

[Press release; Columbia, Mo.] Celebration of the Trulaske College of Business’s Centennial year began with the announcement of a new program--the Risk Management and Insurance Program--funded by $1 million in donations from corporate and private donors. Students interested in the specialized area will graduate with specific skills in managing risk for corporations, businesses and individuals. The program exposes students to all aspects of risk management including insurance, capital markets, operational and financial risks. This deepens students’ understanding of risk management and makes Trulaske graduates valuable assets to employers. Graduates in risk management and insurance will be prepared for careers as risk analysts and managers for businesses and government; as brokers/agents providing professional risk management counseling and market placement services for clients; as consultants and personal financial planners; and in underwriting, marketing, claims adjusting, planning, governmental relations, and financial management activities of insurers.

A series of generous gifts made the program’s launch a reality, including lead corporate support from Missouri Employers Mutual, Columbia Insurance Group and Shelter Insurance as well as individual support from Duncan and Shirley Matteson, Tom and Betty Scott, and Peter and Ellen Clune.

Frederick Travis will direct the new program. He brings over 30 years of experience to the position as the Principal Consultant for Risk Management Consulting, LLC and as the Director of Corporate Safety & Risk Management for Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. Additionally, he is active in the Risk and Insurance Management Society both in St. Louis and nationally, having served on the St. Louis Chapter Board of Directors from and the RIMS National Board of Directors.

The program will begin instruction for the fall 2014 semester. Students are enrolling for courses at this time. For more information, visit business.missouri.edu or contact Trulaske College of Business communications director Ashley Burden at burdena@missouri.edu or (573) 884-3471.
