Purpose of the Program
The purpose of the program is to offer an intensive, one-week global forum for experienced risk managers who are URMIA members. Selected fellows will work with URMIA affiliates and international members in London to create a unique educational opportunity. URMIA will provide the funding for the travel, including airfare, lodging, and meals, subject to the URMIA travel policy.
Aims of the Program
- To provide an excellent professional development opportunity for members;
- To provide an opportunity to work more closely with affiliates as well as existing international members while reaching out to new potential international members; and
- To expand URMIA’s international exposure by building upon the foundation that began with the 2008 International Fellowship Program, in alignment with URMIA’s strategic plan
Details of the 2009 program are still being finalized, and the draft is subject to some changes based on availability of faculty for the Program.
Fellowship Description & Qualifications
The second year of the International Fellowship Program (IFP) will take place in May 2009. You must be a member of URMIA to apply; for this reason, you must be logged in to the website to access the form. In order to have a balanced URMIA representation, the selection committee will consider applications from all URMIA member institutions, including small and large schools and schools from all geographic areas. There will also be a required telephone interview. Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to higher education risk management and to URMIA. This level of commitment will be evaluated based upon the following qualifications:
- Applicant must have fifteen years’ experience in risk management and/or insurance, with at least half of that time spent in higher education risk management
- Applicant must be directly involved in administration of the college/university’s risk management program
- Applicant must have been involved in URMIA for a minimum of five years
- Applicant must have supervisor’s approval and support
- Applicant must be available for telephone interview
- Applicant must commit to reporting to URMIA Board and membership through both a written summary and an oral presentation at the annual or regional conference
- Applicant should have a minimum of one advanced degree or professional designation, e.g., ARM, CPCU, JD, MBA, CIC
- No current URMIA officer, director, committee chair, or IFP task force member is eligible for the fellowship
Procedure
The fellowship application was due on or before Friday, January 9, 2009. After the application deadline, all applications will be shared with the task force. Based on its review, those receiving the highest rankings will be asked for a telephone interview. Based on the telephone interviews, the 2009 Fellows will be chosen.
Selection Process
- Receipt of Applications.
All applications must be submitted electronically by January 9, 2009. Each applicant will receive an e-mail confirming that the digital files have been received. If the application is not complete, it will receive no further review. Applicants will not be notified if elements are missing. Applicants will have until the due date to make changes to the application.
- Review.
Based on the applications, each applicant will be reviewed by multiple reviewers. Those applications receiving the highest overall scores will remain in the list of potential fellows and be invited to participate in a telephone interview.
- Notification.
Candidates will be selected several weeks after the application due date and will be notified shortly thereafter.
- Contractual Agreement.
Fellows will sign an official contract with URMIA that addresses fellowship contractual obligations. Click here for a copy of the IFP Liability Release.
