Director Business Continuity Planning- The University of North Carolina at Charlotte
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Risk Management, Safety & Security, working closely with University senior leadership, the Director, Business Continuity Planning will be responsible for developing, planning, implementing & directing comprehensive & complex business continuity planning program. Additionally, the position will serve as a central facilitator/liaison for University activities with local & state authorities, & external agencies & community organizations, while concurrently partnering with campus departments. Primary responsibilities include the following:
1. Plan Development:
a. Conduct threat/risk assessments for operations of the University
b. Identify critical business processes of the University.
c. Direct & assist in the development of continuity plans & procedures for all critical business process.
2. Change Management:
a. Assess the business continuity implications of proposed technological or organizational changes, to include: construction & occupancy of new buildings/facilities, transition to new enterprise management software & hardware, internal transfer of operational responsibilities.
b. Coordinate revisions to existing business continuity plans or procedures, or development of new plans as necessitated by such changes.
c. Ensure that changes to business continuity plans do not create conflict with other business continuity plans. This is most critical for interdependent processes.
3. Administration:
a. Coordinate routine updates to the detailed information supporting the business continuity plans (e.g., contact data, team organization, personnel assignments, hardware & software specifications, network diagrams, vital records inventory lists, off-site backup schedules, vendor contracts, etc.).
b. Coordinate electronic access to, & hard copy distribution of, business continuity plans & procedures.
c. Assist units with resolving issues related to work area recovery planning & recovery plan development/improvement.
d. System Administrator for CPO Tracker (business continuity plan management software), to include contract negotiation/renewal, database maintenance, & training of users.
e. System Administrator for PIER (emergency response & information management software), to include contract negotiation/renewal, database maintenance, & training of users.
f. Maintain the Business Continuity Plan web site.
4. Training & Excercise:
a. Ensure that personnel with specific business continuity responsibilities are adequately trained to fulfill those responsibilities.

5. Emergency Management:
a. Working collaboratively with Police & Public Safety (PPS), develop an Emergency Response Plan for the University that:
(1) Establishes responsibilities
(2) Provides for a centralized task force to manage emergency situations.
(3) Provides appropriate liaison with external Incident Commanders.
b. Coordinate with external authorities (local and state police, fire department, HAZMAT, City/County Emergency Management Office) in designing and exercising scenarios.
6. Communication:
a. Establish strong & effective communication channels with all campus constituencies including, but not limited to:
(1) Employees responsible for development, maintenance, and/or implementation of business continuity plans,
(2) Vendors who will provide services & supplies required in plan implementation, &
(3) University executive leadership.
7. Emergency Response:
a. Provide 24/7 on-call support for any emergency which may require activation of all or part of the University's business continuity plan.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strongest candidates will have a minimum of five to seven years of related experience in business continuity & disaster/emergency management planning, preferably in a large research university environment or in a culture similar to that of higher education. Strongest candidates will have a bachelor's degree in emergency management, business, science, public administration, or related field, & possess an advanced degree with emphasis in areas such as Risk Management, Emergency Management & Planning. Process & project management training & experience working with a wide range of time horizons & disciplines will be favorably viewed, along with a demonstrated desire for continual improvement and competence at developing new projects.
Evidence of impactful leadership, the ability to create, operationalize & communicate a vision and strategic plan, & administrative management experience in collegial working environments will be essential for the successful candidate. As a result, superb interpersonal & communications skills are mandatory.

Chief Risk Officer, Enterprise Risk Manager- University of North Carolina Greensboro

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is seeking nominations and applications for the position Chief Risk Officer, Enterprise Risk Management. UNCG has been classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a comprehensive doctoral, research university with “high research activity” and in the community engagement classification under Curricular Engagement and Outreach and Partnerships.
The Chief Risk Officer reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Safety, Emergency and Enterprise Risk Management but will assist the Chancellor, Executive Staff and the Board of Trustees with the management of the University’s risk appetite and tolerance.
This position will provide leadership and management experience to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Safety, Emergency and Enterprise Risk Management to identify and manage possible risks across strategic planning, regulatory compliance, financial management, operational requirements and all associated issues inherent in management of aforementioned categories. The CRO will work through the Enterprise Risk Management Committee, the Executive Staff, and the Board of Trustees to develop the Enterprise Risk Program.
Primary responsibilities are to provide visionary leadership and to develop the Enterprise Risk Management Program for the University. Assisting and working with the senior administrative personnel in all departments, schools and sections within the University over the five areas of risk: Hazard, Financial, Operational, Strategic and Compliance. The CRO provides a centralized process for aggregating and reporting risk information to executive management. The CRO will monitor and validate risk measurement and valuation methodologies to ensure alignment of the university’s risk management capabilities with its strategic direction. The CRO will chair the Enterprise Risk Management Committee to provide oversight on risk issues. The CRO will create a position to oversee traditional risk management functions for insurance and claims management. The CRO will work closely with the leaders of EHS and Public Safety to assure mitigation efforts are addressing risk identified by the campus community and leadership through the ERM program.
Additional duties may include acting as a spokesperson on risk issues and working on a peer to peer basis with senior management throughout the university community. The CRO is also required to maintain relationships with professional organizations and peers at other institutions to provide input and feedback on program effectiveness. The CRO will serve on various university committees involved in risk management as a committee member. The CRO will be assigned from time to time to special assignments as prescribed by the Associate Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications: Candidates should have a demonstrated leadership and management ability in a complex higher education or research organization. They should have a strong commitment to customer service and excel at the ability to build strong relationship with the many different sectors on a university campus to include interfacing with the public.
