Bio

Prior to retirement, James Breeding had been the director of risk management and insurance at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey for over 28 years. He was a member of the university's International Crisis Risk Assessment Team, Work Place Violence Risk Assessment Team, Life Health Safety Committee, and the Internal Review Board. In addition, he served on the executive committee of Genesis Limited, an association captive insurance company owned by 16 major institutions of higher education, and chaired the claims committee for 25 years. Genesis provides general liability, property, and professional liability coverages for its members. Mr. Breeding is an active member of URMIA and has served on the board of directors and as treasurer. He is also a recipient of URMIA's Distinguished Risk Manager (DRM) award. He also served as the chair of the Insurance Advisory Committee of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He is active in RIMS, and he is a past member of the Risk Management Advisory Committee of United Educators Insurance Risk Retention Group, Inc. Mr. Breeding holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Rutgers College. He is an author and frequent speaker on risk management issues related to higher education.
