It’s the Top of the Class During 2021
URMIA named the 2021 recipients of its annual awards during the 52nd Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington. Congratulations to the following risk management professionals for their service and dedication to the higher education risk management profession.
Emeritus Award Recipients
Our Emeritus award is given to retired members who have provided exemplary service to URMIA and higher education risk management as a professional during their careers. Our 2021 recipients include: Elizabeth Carmichael, retired from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts; Michael Gansor who retired from West Virginia University in West Virginia; and John E. Watson, retired from Gallagher’s Higher Education Practice.
Visionary Award
A new award for URMIA this year is the Visionary Award which recognizes our association’s institutional members who identify a specific need, act upon it, and develop an innovative and effective program, process, or service to address that identified need for URMIA members. The association awarded its first Visionary Award to Jeff Chasen of the University of Kansas for his work in launching the Compliance Community for URMIAns who are interested in and/or responsible for compliance initiatives at their institution.
Distinguished Risk Manager Award
Presented to institutional members of URMIA in recognition of a long-term, distinguished career as a risk manager and contributions made to the field of risk management, the Distinguished Risk Manager Award is one of the highest recognitions from the association. For 2021, recipients include Susan Liden, director of risk services at Pacific Lutheran University, and Lisa Zimmaro, associate vice president, risk management and treasury for Temple University.
