We are integrated into most major functions of the university. We have a RMIS system in which we streamline business processes, collect data, dashboard key metrics, and manage our day-to-day risk management operations. We are only 3 years into the RMIS system, but plan on using the data to forecast losses and develop preventative measures. IRM falls under EHS, which is part of Finance & Administration. We are responsible for all insurance procurement, loss control, claims, allocating premiums, risk assessments, etc. We have a team of 3 - a manager and 2 risk specialists. We are one of the largest public universities in NC and are trailblazers in the public institution space in North Carolina. |
University risk management has consultation responsibility for all of these areas except healthcare. As an academic medical center, university risk management and healthcare risk management activities were, until recently, conducted out of one office. University risk management was recently reorganized to the UAB Office of Compliance & Risk Assurance to better demonstrate a devoted focus on campus-related risk matters (property insurance, GL/auto, international travel, contracts, etc.). Healthcare professional liability matters are the responsibility of the UAB Medicine Office of Risk Management and Insurance. |
