The Office of Ethics, Compliance, and Enterprise Risk (OECE) leads the enterprise risk management (ERM) program that proactively identifies, assesses, and manages risks that could impact the university’s ability to achieve its strategic and operational goals. OECE works with risk managers across to mitigate enterprise-wide risks. OECE also leads the youth protection program. Additionally, the Office of Risk Management has two members and focuses on insurance/casualty insurance, claims, workers' compensation, loss control, and alternative risk financing. Our global travel safety manager serves as the lead point of contact for international risk, safety, and security preparedness protocols and services associated with international travel across the university for students, faculty, and staff and is a part of the Rice global office. Rice's Office of Emergency Management manages business continuity and emergency management. The Information Security Office manages cyber-related risks. The teams above work together collaboratively to manage risks across campus and meet regularly in our Compliance and Enterprise Risk Working Group (CAER). |
We are actively involved in all the areas listed above, but the ultimate responsibility for them falls into other areas around the university. We partner very closely with EHS, Facilities, OHS, Reunions, Public Safety, HR, Travel, Safety & Security, ODUS, and departments around campus. We have been focusing on educating faculty, staff, and students about insurance and risk the last few years, as well as conducting one-on-one meetings with academic departments to foster better relationships. |
