He started the university's very successful self insurance program and, in 2005, was instrumental in the startup of the university's own insurance company, Old Crescent Insurance Company. In addition to earning the Associate in Claims (AIC), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), and Associate in Automation Management (AAM) designations, Mr. Stephens has been very active in URMIA. He has served twice as URMIA's president, served on and chaired several committees, served as editor and publisher of the association's published communications, and was listmaster and webmaster for almost a decade. Mr. Stephens also received the Distinguished Risk Manager award. Mr. Stephens was born and raised in Monroe County, Indiana, and graduated from Indiana University. He's married to Sherry, who owns her own business, and they have five children.
