Bio

Ben has spent over 34 years working in higher education and healthcare risk management. Ben is the Associate Vice President for Risk Management and Insurance at the University of Pennsylvania, having served in this capacity for 13 ½ years. His responsibilities include oversight of the insurance and risk management programs for the University and the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Internally, Ben serves on the boards of the Division of Public Safety Advisory Board, The Student Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) Advisory Board, The Compliance LEADS Committee, Institutional Risk Committee, Crisis Management Team, Global Incident Management Team, Life Safety Systems Committee, Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee, and serves as an advisor to the Division of Finance Risk Committee. Prior to joining Penn, Ben served in similar roles at Temple University and Thomas Jefferson University. Ben also worked at Marsh McLennan in their healthcare unit. Ben currently serves on the boards of three Vermont-based Risk Retention Groups, two Bermuda-based Captives, and one Cayman–based Captive. He currently serves on Chubb’s Client Advisory Board. Ben holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from LaSalle University and also has his ARM (Associate in Risk Management) designation. Ben was named as a 2017 RIMS Risk Manager of the Year Honor Roll Award Recipient and is a recipient of the 2018 Theodore Roosevelt (“Teddy”) Workers’ Compensation Award. Ben has served as a board member and volunteered on numerous community organizations. Ben is the proud father of two daughters and the proud grandfather of a grandson.
