URMIA’s Peer Review Service is designed to be a customized resource specifically for higher education institutions, whatever their type, size, or location.

The URMIA Difference

URMIA offers the only peer review service exclusively dedicated to the risk management needs of higher education. Our team will collaborate with you and other appropriate individuals on your campus in an interactive process to benchmark against similar institutions and recommend best practices.

Your Team of Peers

Teams consist of highly experienced URMIA members who are, or have served as, higher education risk managers or in related disciplines as appropriate. These peers are deeply knowledgeable about the specific challenges facing colleges and universities – and how to meet them.

You Define the Scope

We will work with you to identify needs and outline the scope and focus of the assessment. Options include the following broad categories:

  • Risk Management Oversight and Reporting
  • Risk Identification and Assessment Practices
  • Structure of Risk Management Programs (e.g., Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, & International Operations)

We utilized URMIA's peer review service to assess our risk management department's processes and staffing, ensuring we were equipped to meet the College's insurance and risk management needs. The process was swift and effective, with a team of five seasoned higher ed risk managers visiting our campus to engage with key staff through interviews. The valuable insights and recommendations from their report empowered us to secure leadership support for initiatives that had previously faced challenges. Within a year, our department's reporting structure was realigned, we welcomed an additional team member, and we proudly launched enterprise risk management (ERM) at the college for the first time.

  • Jointly establishing the project's scope, timing, and expectations
  • Requests for, and review of, a wide variety of documents
  • On-site visit and/or virtual meetings with individuals on campus
  • Discussion of preliminary findings with campus leadership designees
  • Written full or summary report (as requested)
