Bio

Elizabeth Carmichael is the former president of Carmichael Associates, a consulting firm that provided compliance and risk management services for education. She is the former director of compliance and risk management for Five Colleges Incorporated’s private colleges (Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith College) from 1994 to 2016. Prior to creating the RM program at Five Colleges, Elizabeth was a vice president with Alexander and Alexander, Inc. An URMIA member since 1994, Elizabeth developed and managed the URMIA Tenants' and Users' Liability Insurance Policy (TULIP) Program, has served as an URMIA board member and secretary, chair of the URMIA Research and Development and the Constitution and Bylaws Committees, and continues to participate in various committees. She is the 2004 recipient of the URMIA Distinguished Risk Manager (DRM) award; in 2011, Elizabeth received URMIA's Innovative Risk Management Solutions award. Elizabeth has been a panelist or speaker for NACUBO and its regional organizations, National Association of Educational Buyers (NAEB), National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA), and URMIA. She is a contributing author to several publications. A graduate of Smith College, Elizabeth also holds an MLS degree from Columbia University.
