Bio

Ruth A. Bash, CRM, DRM, MAOM, ARM is the President and CEO of Timberland Consulting LLC, a risk management consulting company that specializes in enterprise risk management program development and implementation for both public and private entities. Ruth was the Director of Enterprise Risk Management for the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD), the largest community college district in the United States, with ten colleges, two skill centers, two charter high schools, three radio stations, and a district office. Ruth worked for MCCCD for more than 15 years. Ruth was the project leader for Maricopa Integrated Risk Assessment (MIRA), an enterprise risk management project championed by the District's chancellor. She was also a resource to the District on cyber risk insurance and litigation, crisis management, insurance coverages, risk-control programs, OSHA compliance, and insurance language for contracts. Ruth has more than 33 years' experience in risk management. Before joining the MCCCD, she was executive director of the Valley Schools Insurance Trust and Valley Schools Workers' Compensation Pool. Ruth was also Risk Manager for the City of Tempe, Arizona, and the City of Coconut Creek, Florida. Ruth has earned the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation and the Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation. She has a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Eastern Michigan University. Ruth has served on the Public Risk Management Association's (PRIMA) National Board of Directors for six years, including one year as President and two years as past President. She was the co-chair of the 2013 URMIA (University Risk Management and Insurance Association) Conference Committee. At the URMIA Annual Conference in September 2009, Ruth received the Distinguished Risk Manager (DRM) award, and in September 2007, she received the first Innovative Risk Management Solutions Award for the MIRA project. She was also Vice Chair of the Insurance Committee for the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers. Ruth served on the Long Term Disability Trust Board and the Self Insurance Reserve Fund Board for the City of Phoenix. Ruth has taught the Risk Management for Public Entities (RMPE) and ARM review classes for PRIMA and URMIA, as well as insurance and business classes at Phoenix College. She is a frequent presenter and guest lecturer on risk management for several organizations, including PRIMA, URMIA, RIMS, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University. She has also consulted with several organizations regarding implementing enterprise risk management.
