Bio

As the vice-chair member of Saul Ewing's Litigation Department, James A. Keller handles a wide array of litigation matters arising out of complex business disagreements. As the co-chair of the firm's Higher Education Practice Group, Mr. Keller has particular experience defending colleges and universities and advising higher education institutions on liability issues. In the past year, Mr. Keller has provided Title IX training and presentations across the country to over 1,000 people in all. Mr. Keller also consistently handles the defense of major premises liability actions, ERISA claims, white collar criminal matters, and reinsurance disputes. Within one year, the breadth of Mr. Keller's experience may be summarized by three matters. He represented as lead counsel a Fortune 500 employee benefits company in ERISA litigation, an Ivy League university in a major premises liability matter, and a local software firm in a contract dispute. Mr. Keller obtained a voluntary discontinuance in the ERISA litigation, secured summary judgment in favor of the Ivy League institution, and negotiated a favorable monetary settlement for the local software firm. Mr. Keller has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware, where he taught undergraduate law courses. Prior to joining Saul Ewing, Mr. Keller was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Harvey Bartle III in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
