Outstanding Affiliate Service Award Given at Annual Conference

Candace D. Collins, JD, global safeguarding managing director at Gallagher, was honored with URMIA's Outstanding Affiliate Service Award. Her service as a cross-divisional abuse risk subject matter expert has made an immeasurable difference. As her nomination stated, "Candace has been stalwart in her efforts to provide awareness of various sexual assault issues within the industry." Before joining Gallagher, she worked at Praesidium for more than 12 years, helping clients build organizational prevention strategies while also supporting crisis response work. Prior to Praesidium, Candace practiced law for more than a decade, with a focus on insurance coverage. Earlier in her career, she served as an assistant attorney general for the State of Texas, prosecuting abuse and neglect cases in long-term care and behavioral health facilities.

Collins' service in higher education risk started in 2013 and the first URMIA conference she attended was a western regional in Newport Beach, CA. She has attended most annual conferences since 2015 and is often a speaker or moderator. She has also written articles for the organization's previous publication, the URMIA Journal, and our current newsletter, URMIA Insights. She has supported the annual conference newcomer session for affiliate attendees helping them feel welcomed and outlining what they should expect at their first URMIA conference for several years and led the Affiliates Committee as co-chair from 2022 to 2025.

“Candace is highly generous of her time and knowledge, and her enthusiasm has inspired many of us to think outside of the box and bring our best selves to the table at our meetings and I'm certain this extends to her work outside of URMIA. She represents herself, her firm, and URMIA extremely well and is highly professional. She always has a smile, is positive, and inspires others while working through some of the toughest situations our members can imagine,” wrote her nominator for the award.
