What Is Your Current Role and Institution, and How Long Have You Been There

I am the executive director for risk management at the Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) and I will have been there for 14 years in June.

How Did You Find Your Way into Higher Ed Risk Management

I worked in healthcare my entire career before accepting a clinical compliance position at NICC. In 2016, I became NICC's first (and only, to date) risk manager.

What Motivated You to Volunteer with URMIA

The Belonging Committee spoke to me!

What's One Small Action That's Made a Big Difference in Your Risk Management Work

Building relationships. When stakeholders see me as a partner, they are more likely to involve me early in the decision-making process rather than at the end when it's too late to pivot.

What's Your Favorite Way to Unwind Outside of Work?

Spending time with my grandchildren (ages 5, 4, 3, 2 & a baby due in July)!

What's a Favorite Campus Tradition at Your Institution

Silly for Soup & Batty for Bars. This event, held annually on Halloween, raises money for our Student Crisis Fund. Food, live music, a pumpkin decorating contest, and a silent auction. This event is a lot of fun and helps support our most vulnerable students.
