John joined Gallagher in 2003 after serving 16 years as the Director of Risk Management for Pepperdine University. John’s years with Gallagher gives him a deep knowledge in Gallagher’s Higher Education Practice resources, which he brings to Gallagher’s higher education clients and team members. John has extensive expertise with practical cost-effective approaches for higher education strategic risk, risk management operations, international travel, emergency preparedness and crisis management planning, facilitating tabletop crisis exercises, and addressing the daily risks presented in a dynamic campus environment.
While at Pepperdine John served on the URMIA Board for 12 years. He is the recipient of URMIA’s Distinguished Risk Manager recognition in 2000, and has been recognized five occasions by Risk & Insurance Magazine in their annual Power Broker issue for education. John has served on United Educator’s Risk Management Advisory Council, the Board of Directors of College Liability Insurance Company (CLIC), been a regular contributor to professional trade publications and speaker on a variety of risk management subjects at local, national & international trade association meetings and conferences (including URMIA, NACUBO, NACUA, CUPA-HR, NACAS, CUPA-HR, NAFSA, OSAC),
Prior to Pepperdine, John spent eleven years as an insurance broker specializing in excess and surplus lines commercial property & casualty insurance and risk management consulting. John graduated from Loyola-Marymount University.
