Bio

Katharine Bonneson is the Associate Vice President for Heath, Safety & Risk Management for the University of Minnesota System. In this role Mrs. Bonneson leads several risk management and compliance focused units such as; Radiation Safety, Biosafety, Environmental Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Emergency Management, Building Codes and Threat Assessment. Before accepting her current role, Katharine was the Chief Operating Officer for the University of Minnesota Health Science Schools with responsibility for Facilities, HIPAA Compliance, Information Technology, Human Resources and Communications. She also served as the Chief Financial Officer for the School of Nursing along with teaching Economics and Financial Management for the college during her tenure. Katharine graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1999 and continued on with a Master’s Degree in Management from the University of Maryland University College in 2002. In 2009 she graduated with her Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Baltimore. Additional areas of focus and training include becoming a certified Risk Manager in 2024, completing countless hours of FEMA training and recently graduating from the Center for Homeland Defense and Security’s Executive Leaders Program.
