Jon Kucskar, JD, is a values-oriented leader with a proven record of achieving organizational, legal and policy successes for large, mission-driven institutions.
Kucskar currently serves as the inaugural Deputy Chief Risk Officer at Johns Hopkins University. He plays a key role – including as Chair of the university’s ERM Committee - in implementing and enhancing JHU's long-standing ERM program and on a variety of other risk-related issues.
Prior to JHU, Kucskar served as Special Assistant to the President and Assistant Vice President for Enterprise Risk Management at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). Kucskar led UMB’s ERM program in developing and implementing a new risk assessment framework; oversaw the Office of Risk Management (insurance, workers' compensation, and property/auto claims); and had significant leadership and coordination roles in UMB’s COVID-19 response and recovery processes.
Previously, Kucskar served as Deputy Legal Counsel to the Governor of Maryland and in senior roles at both a federal and state agency. Since 2014, he has served as an adjunct law professor at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Kucskar earned his JD from Maryland Carey Law; his BS from Boston College; and a Certificate in Intercultural Leadership from the UMB Graduate School.
